Ahmed Fathi — The Yemeni Artist Ahmed Fathi is a prominent Yemeni artist, considered one of the most distinguished symbols of Yemeni song and its messenger to the outside world. He was born in the city of Hodeida (western Yemen) in the early 1950s, and grew up in an environment rich with traditional Yemeni music that influenced him from his early childhood, in addition to being influenced by Eastern songs, especially Egyptian music.
Artistic Career Ahmed Fathi began his artistic journey in the capital Sana'a, initially focusing on playing the oud. In the 1970s, he enrolled at the Higher Institute of Music in Cairo, where he earned a diploma in harmonic music and specialized in oud performance. After his graduation, he collaborated with the renowned Yemeni poet Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Maqaleh, and their joint works achieved widespread popularity both inside and outside Yemen. In the early 1980s, he collaborated with the Yemeni singer Abu Bakr Salem (who resided in Saudi Arabia) on their first song of traditional Yemeni music. This artistic collaboration, along with new musical introductions, significantly increased Fathi's reputation.
Higher Studies and Musical Research Ahmed Fathi earned a Master's degree with distinction from the Higher Institute of Music in Cairo in December 1998 (academic year 1999) for his thesis on "The Oud and Its Importance to Yemeni Song." Honors and International Participations - He was decorated with the Medal of Arts by the Yemeni Minister of Culture and Tourism, Abdul Malik Mansour, in appreciation of his role in raising the popularity of high Yemeni songs in local, Arab, and international arenas. - He participated in the artistic festival organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism held in London, alongside other traditional troupes. - He achieved a prestigious position at the International Childhood Festival in Cairo in 1998.
Personal Life and Family Ahmed Fathi comes from an artistic family of great heritage. His daughter is the Emirati-Yemeni singer Balqees Fathi (born October 20, 1988), who grew up in a rich musical environment and inherited from her father a love for music and artistic talent.
